Nick Drake was an English singer-songwriter whose work was only fully recognised long after his tragic, untimely death in 1974 at the age of 26. This podcast is a 2-part reading of an essay about Nick written by your humble host, and between the two parts Antony talks to master guitarist Kester Jones about Nick Drake's music and guitar technique, with Kester also providing demonstrations of songs using the legendary alternate tunings. There are also full interpretations of a couple of Nick's songs by Antony, Kester and Melanie Lawrence

As the title suggests, today's episode looks at the methods of (often very subtle) suggestion used fairly openly by the powers-that-be to 'nudge' the public towards following certain policies in this most surreal of eras, which has been dominated by an unseen enemy and much public discussion about how to cope with it. There is some initial discussion of what propaganda actually means, as it has different strands and slightly differing definitions, depending on who you ask. Julian Charles and Antony navigate these choppy waters with a myriad of references, observations and ideas.

'Conspiracy theory', as previously discussed on the show, has become a weaponised term and often used sweepingly to discredit alternative viewpoints. At the same time there are plenty of wild theories that have no basis in fact. Ricky Green of the University of Kent joins Antony for a friendly debate/discussion about what is often a semantic and informational minefield. When does sceptical mean paranoid? Is reasonable and trusting actually naive and innocent? You can decide!

This episode is a reading of the short but powerful 1935 book 'War Is A Racket', written not by a conspiracy theorist living in his parents' basement (admittedly, they didn't really exist in 1935!) but by a highly-decorated Marine Corps Major General. I intersperse it with a few comments of my own and the reading is followed by Mark Twain's 'The War Prayer' and Antony's song 'Lessons of War'

I'm joined by Harry from the 'Harry's Moving Media' you tube channel to discuss in depth our collective favourite episode of the classic Charlie Brooker-conceived 'Black Mirror'. Since 'Nosedive' was created, we've seen China introduce a social ratings system but could it happen in the West? (or has it already?). We go more or less scene by scene to dissect the obvious and subtle elements contained within and then offer some advice as to how we could all prevent a 'Nosedive' reality (links to Harry's work below).

Douglas Valentine is an author, investigator, journalist and poet and also a perfect L.A.L.O. (Life And Life Only) guest since his work and life are a combination of seeking the truth about potentially dark areas of life while promoting self-development and a spiritual centre through his poetry.
